We’re not descendants of slaves but survivors – Boris Kodjoe urges Africans

Renowned actor, Boris Kodjoe has said that Africans especially those in the diaspora should see themselves as descendants of survivors and not slaves.

He said when Africans adopt this mindset, it will help in transforming their world and positively impact the next generation.

The German of Ghanaian descent wants the world to know that the current generation of Africans can never be referred to as descendants of slaves.

Boris Kodjoe made this comment in an interview on ‘The Real’, an American television panel show, after visiting Ghana in December 2019 for the ‘Year of Return’ celebrations.

‘My father is from Ghana. He is passed now. We spent sometime when I was a child. And also we want to commemorate the 400 years since the beginning of the slave trade to reconnect with our ancestry to celebrate our collective heritage”

”To make people understand that we are not descendants of slaves, we are descendants of survivors. When you make that switch in your mind, it has a tremendous impact on your consciousness”, he said.

Boris Kodjoe also added that he visited Ghana with his family and other celebrities because he wanted to change the description about Africa by the foreign media that it is a place of war, famine and other vices.

The actor and his wife Nicole Ari Parker, spearheaded the Full Circle Festival in Ghana in December 2019.
